Donate goods
With ten shops and several major Book Fairs every year, we always welcome donations of quality books, clothes and bric-a-brac.
Re-selling good condition pre-loved books and clothes is one of the most effective ways we can raise the funding necessary to continue providing our services. Providing the condition is good-to-excellent, no donation of books or clothes is ever too small.
There are a few guidelines around what we accept
As our customers expect high quality products, we unfortunately can’t accept all donations. Regrettably, in spite of our donors’ best intentions, almost 50% of goods donated can’t be re-sold, and have to be disposed of (at a cost to Lifeline Northern Beaches). While we certainly don’t want to discourage donations, we do ask that you read the guidelines below before you drop your goods off.
We do not have the resources to:
- Wash stained or soiled items
- Repair damaged items
- Replace missing parts
- Recycle garments or rags
Our customers love clean and excellent condition products, so if the items you are considering donating are not something you would purchase, please consider recycling or disposing these products yourself.

- CDs

- Puzzles and games
- Comics, graphic novels & Manga
- Magazines with a face value greater than $10 and in good condition (some exceptions apply – see ‘No thank you’)
- ‘Talking book’ audio on CD
- Text books – late editions only, not defaced
No, thank you.
- Reader’s Digest condensed books
- Law books, older than 3 Years
- Encyclopaedias, no matter how new
- Atlases older than 3 years
- Magazines under $10 face value or in poor condition, or older than 2 years
- National Geographic magazines
- Telephone books or street directories
- Text books, unless recent & in mint condition
- Any item not meeting our quality standards (any books that are yellowed, mouldy, torn, dirty, written in, or defaced can unfortunately not be sold)
Clothes and other goods
We always appreciate offers of donations and your intention to support Lifeline Northern Beaches.

Thanks, but no thanks
- Very low price/low quality goods
- Worn out/stained/damages/incomplete items
- Personalised items with names; such as books, clothing, monogrammed items
- New or used underwear
- Used bedding; including pillows, doonas, mattress covers
- Mattresses and cots
- Items requiring safety standard checks; such as, mobility aids, baby equipment, bike helmets and electrical items
- Large furniture
- White goods (ovens, dishwashers)
- Electrical equipment, toasters
- Computers and software
We can also offer personalised on-site assistance with deceased estates or down-sizing. Please speak with your local Lifeline Shop Store Manager for more information.
Where to drop your donations
If possible, please deliver your good quality and clean clothing, homewares or jewellery donations to one of our shops during business hours (click here for opening times).
