Book Fairs are fun!
Lifeline Northern Beaches (LLNB) holds several Book Fairs every year and the revenue from sales assists greatly in allowing LLNB to undertake its valuable work. The Book Fairs are renowned as sources of near new Books, DVDs, CDs, Puzzles and Games, all very reasonably priced. All of these have been carefully selected and categorised by Lifeline’s experienced Book Room volunteers to ensure only the most recent and pertinent selections are offered to the public. Books are split into over 30 categories, the most popular of which include Crime, Cooking and Wine, Children’s, Gardening, Chick Lit, Romance, Visual Arts – but there are dozens of others! There is a Collectibles section for those particularly unusual and sought after selections. Dealers are welcome and are dealt with in a separate area devoted to their needs.

Buying from our Book Fairs helps save lives
As with our shops, our fairs rely totally on donations from the public and our partner organisations, and are staffed entirely by volunteers. In fact it takes more than 150 volunteers to put on the average 2 ½-day book fair.
All proceeds from our fairs help to fund the Lifeline 24-hour 13 11 14 Crisis Support Line, the training of our Telephone Crisis Supporters, and the various support groups, counselling and other services that Lifeline Northern Beaches provides to the local community.
How many books make a Book Fair?
In an average 12-month period we:
- sort 200,000 books
- pack and transport 120,000 books
- raise funds of more than $120,000
Overheard from customers at a recent Book Fair:
“This is just amazing … so many books in the one place and so well set out. It is easy to find what I want”.
“The quality is exceptional… I don’t want to stop shopping”
“I have just found the book I have been looking for all year! Thank you Lifeline Northern Beaches.”

Book Donations are always welcome, but we can not accept book donations at Book Fair's.
Our Book Fairs are dependent upon the donations of Books from the kind people of the Northern Beaches. Just as the customers of our Book Fairs demand recent releases books in excellent condition, we are particularly interested in receiving donations of good new and near-new books of recent vintage, as well as CDs, LPs, DVDs, Puzzles, and Games.
Regrettably, we cannot accept just anything in the way of books. Books that are dirty, or yellowing, or mildewy, torn, water-damaged or ex-library are not saleable. We cannot accept magazines, Readers’ Digest Condensed, Law/IT/Technical Books older than 3 years and Text books, unless recent and in mint condition. The sad truth is, in spite our of donors’ best intentions, up to 50% of the material we receive is not of a saleable standard and has to be disposed of at some cost to LLNB. So please consider whether the books you have are ones that you would want to buy at our Book Fairs, and then you will know what kind of material we are seeking.
