Quit Smoking Support Group
Smoking is the largest single preventable cause of death and disease in Australia.
There is a tobacco-related death about every 28 minutes in Australia, adding up to more than 50 deaths each day.
Tobacco use not only reduces life expectancy, but quality of life as well. Many medical conditions caused by smoking can result not just in death, but in living for years with disabling health problems.
Quitting at any age has health benefits, both immediate and long-term. But it’s never easy
Help and Support Makes A Big Difference
Quitting smoking can be one of the most difficult, yet rewarding things a person can ever do. Most smokers say they wish they could quit. Many have tried at least once.
Two of the things that can make a huge difference to a quitter’s chances of quitting for good are:
- Getting the right help and support along the way, and
- And finding their own strategy for quitting – because different methods suit different people.
Participation in a Lifeline Northern Beaches Quitting Smoking Support Group is a way for a smoker to increase their chances of quitting successfully. And for good.
Quit for good
Over a six week period, in a friendly supportive atmosphere, we provide evidence-based strategies to quit smoking. We don’t believe in a single ‘one size fits all’ solution to quitting. So we work with group members to find the best method for each person individually.
Our 3-stage process – Contemplation to Action to Maintenance – gives members a framework and a strategy for managing how they quit, and once they have quit, the tools to enable them to keep on track.
In and beyond the group, we give ongoing support to help group members stay tobacco free
